Obituary for James J McQuillan

James J. McQuillan, age 83, of Sebastian, FL passed away on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at home with family by his side after a brief illness.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 22, 1933. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served durning the Korean War. He went on to receive his B.A. from Hofstra University. After living for many years on Long Island he moved to New Preston, CT in 1966. Following his passion for art and woodworking he took a leap of faith and started his own publishing company that produced the Woodworkers Journal as well as several other related publications. He retires to Florida where he pursued his love of art, music and most importantly, fishing which he enjoyed up until his recent illness.

James is survived by three daughters, Lisa (Greg) Reeves of Valatie, NY, Laura (Kevin) McQuillan of Greeneville, TN, and Carol (Sam) Payne of Vero Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Jillian, Claire and Alec Reeves; his former wife, Margaret; many relatives, friends; and his “Pride and Joy” Percy the cat. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Frances McQuillan; and his grandsons, Dylan and Alex Reeves.

In accordance with his wishes, a private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
