Obituary for George David Geyer

George David Geyer
George David Geyer went to be with our Lord on September 18, 2017. Born in Butler PA in 1931, he had struggled with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s for the last six years. A caring, friendly person, he acquired the nickname “the nice man” in the skilled nursing facility.

He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the Navy from 1951-1955. He moved to Chicago and pursued various professions: teaching electronics at technical schools, owning Mr. G’s Jungle pet store, building a TV studio for Evanston Township High School, and he settled at the Great Lakes Naval Base as a top civilian electronics instructor for 30 years. He attended Moody Bible Institute for two years and taught Sunday School for trainees at the Naval Base. He enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan and was a national 2003 Gold Medal winner for Roller figure skating. Retiring in 2009, he and his wife Pat moved to Sebastian, FL where they enjoyed the Vero Beach Amateur Radio Club and eight years of Florida living.

George was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Joan; a son Paul; and his parents Annabel and George Geyer. He is survived by his wife of 9 years Pat, sister Marcia Grey (Elliott) and children Steve (Tammy), Ruth (Jim), David (Sherri), Kathie Deuel (Mike) and George; brother-in-law Bob Fanning (Carol), 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; his dedicated caregiver Beline; and his beloved dogs Pepper, Harley and Pogo.

A Memorial Service will be held at Christ the King Presbyterian church, 4050 77th St., Vero Beach (corner of US 1) on Monday September 25th at 11am. There will be a reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Veterans Council of Indian River County, PO Box 1354, Vero Beach, Fl 32961.
