Charlie E. Thornton passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Sebastian River Medical Center. He was born to Joe F. & Maude E. Thornton on April 4, 1929 on Pig Island which is now Johns Island.
Charlie was a Cowboy, Gator Hunter, Fisherman, Frog Hunter, Hunter, Heavy Equipment Operator, Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa. He served in the Army for eighteen months from 1952 to 1954.
He leaves behind one brother, William Thornton of Vero Beach, FL; two daughters, Mary Nan Crisp and her husband Henry M. Crisp of Fellsmere, FL, and H. Pauline Cooler and her husband Joseph Cooler of Wabasso, FL; two sons, C. Steve Thornton and his wife Lisa Thornton of Okeechobee, FL and Thomas M. Thornton spouse deceased of Vero Beach, FL; step-son, Hubert Thornton of Melbourne, FL; step-daughter, Sandy T. Coleman of Pear, FL; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and numbers of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; one sister; five brother and there spouses; his wife, Mary N. Gollnick Thornton; grandson, Charlie M. Thornton; great-grandson, Paton S. Canedy; and daughter-in-law Dorothy P. Aldridge Thornton.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Charlie’s life by gathering for a Memorial Service at Fellsmere First Baptist Church, 107 N. Magnolia St, Fellsmere, FL 32948, on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 4:00 pm. Please bring a covered dish to share.
