Douglas Francois, 76, of Sebastian, FL went to be with the Lord on July 29th, 2017 with his wife and son at his bedside. Doug was born April 12th, 1941 in Grenada, West Indies, the second son to Hughes and Hilda Francois. At the age of 5 he and his parents moved to Trinidad, West Indies where he grew up, attended school and enjoyed playing cricket. In 1969 Doug migrated to the U.S. where he made his home in Hartford, CT where he worked as an auto mechanic, specializing in Volkswagens. He worked for Wolfs Volkswagen Dealership and Bughouse Company in Hartford. In November 1997 he and his family moved to Sebastian, FL where he worked in automotive (TLE) at Wal-Mart until his retirement.
Doug was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved his family and enjoyed life. Having good times with family and friends was always part of the equation and don’t forget about the music. Nothing much really bothered Doug, anything that came his way he dealt with calm and easy. He was a kind, genuine, and easy going person that led by example. He was a very hard worker and great provider. Doug was a great and knowledgeable mechanic; he had a passion for working on cars. He enjoyed working around the yard, in his garden, and working in the house. Whether it be fixing something or building something, he did it all. He loved to cook, and was a good one too.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Veronica Francois; sons, Nyger (Towanda) Francois of Hartford, CT, and Christopher Francois of Sebastian, FL; daughter, Jillian (Nigel) John of Rockledge, FL; brothers, Kenrick Francois of Queens, NY and Cecil (Veda) Francois of Brooklyn, NY; sister, Yvonne Francois of Orlando, FL and Joyclyn (Francois) Clements of Trinidad; mother-in-law, Carmen Wilson of Sebastian, FL; sister-in-laws, Marjorie Wilson of Manchester, CT and Jacquelin Hogan of Meriden, CT; brother-in-laws Dennis Evans of Chicago and Trevor Wilson of Jamaica; grandsons Camrin Francois and Caydin Francois of Hartford, CT; granddaughters, Kadiesha and Kayla John of Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. He was predeased by his father, mother, and two brothers. He was loved by many and will be missed.
The family will receive guests from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, 901 Clearmont St., Sebastian, FL 32959. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am, followed by interment at Sebastian Cemetery.
